Why I Use Multiple Moisturizers

in , by The Classic Brunette, 9:55:00 AM

Last week on my Instagram stories I shared that I use four different moisturizers, and y'all went a little nuts over it! Haha. Many of you were confused, intrigued, and surprised, but most of you were curious as to WHY. Well, this post is all about that. Let's start this post off right though by clarifying that I am indeed not a skincare professional, and this is just my preference of how to treat my skin and what works for me! As I said, I switch off between four different moisturizers depending on how my skin is feeling and other factors like the time of day and weather. I'll be doing a more in depth review on each moisturizer and what I use it for below!

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve

If you've followed me for a while you know that this has been my original moisturizer for SO LONG. Before this I was just using Aveeno lotion as a substitute for a moisturizer because I didn't know better. So if you're still in your using lotion as moisturizer phase like I was for years, please let this be your sign to stop! There really is no substitute for a good moisturizer, and the Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve taught me that. It's very lightweight, has a nice cucumber smell, and is perfect for refreshing the moisture that your skin has lost throughout the day.

When I Use It: I bring this out when my skin needs a refresh, but isn't in desperate need of moisture. When my face is feeling particularly tight and rough, I break this jar out and it helps re-create the soft skin that I'm used to having! It also is great for anti-aging properties and hiding fine lines.

Algenist POWER Pressed Night Serum

This was the second moisturizer that made my routine. It's much thicker, has a mild but very pleasant smell, and feels like it almost melts right into your skin when applying.

When I Use It: This is my night moisturizer, so I use this before going to sleep so that my skin can really soak it in and I can wake up with glowing skin. I don't use this every night, only when I feel extra dry. I do, however,  substitute it for my regular moisturizer during the colder months when my face has taken a beating with the cold. It's the thickest moisturizer in my routine and the benefits are clearly there when my skin is dry and even flaky in the winter. If you are someone who suffers from incredibly dry skin, this is the moisturizer for you!

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream

I was recently sent this cream and have fallen in love with it! It smells like roses, has a thicker texture, and there's a reason Charlotte Tilbury says this is her holy grail product.

When I Use It: I've been using this product for a few weeks now, and can say that it might be the perfect summer moisturizer. As I said, I suffer from dry skin regularly, and although it is worse in the winter, the summer isn't my friend either. The Magic Cream is the perfect thickness to re-hydrate my skin, but it's also surprisingly light that it doesn't feel like I have anything on. My skin also gets particularly dry after showering, so I put this on right after I get out!

Starskin Pink Cactus Pudding

This is the most unique moisturizer on this list! If you look at the photos above you can see that the texture of this 'pudding' is almost whipped, making it extremely light on your skin. I can't pinpoint the smell (I'm sure it's what pink cactus smells like, but I'm not sure! Haha), but what I do know is that it smells incredible.

When I Use It: This is another one that I only recently added to my line up a few months back, but it's perfect for the spring and summer months. This moisturizer helps when I have flaky patches, and even helps brighten my skin to give it a healthy glow. It's also almost calming on the skin, so if I'm feeling overheated and red, this is my go-to choice!

What are your thoughts on using multiple moisturizers? When I asked you all about this on Instagram stories last week it was actually evenly split with 50% of you saying that you also use more than one moisturizer in your routine! Do you use any of the same ones as me?

  3. That Fresh moisturizer is calling my name. I currently use an oil as my moisturizer, but I use a different moisturizer in the mornings. I will have to try differnt moisturizers to see which I prefer!

  4. It's really important to moisturize your skin. For me, I do it before I put on my make-up and at night time before going to bed. I will be glad to give these products a try and see if it works for me.

  5. I also use so many different moisturizers. Just a preference to be honest. I have one for the morning and one for night time.
