I'm so excited to finally share with you all part of my new place in Dallas! If you've ever moved somewhere, I'm sure you know the struggle that is getting a room together. Almost three months have gone by and I'm only just getting things finished off and finalizing new decor. My best friend and I split most of our furniture and decor evenly, so I had to fill in those empty spots in the new place, but I was mostly set. Luckily I didn't have too difficult of a time finding the items I wanted (and almost all at great prices!) but I did need a little help putting things together and styling it in the most flattering way. So I do want to give a shout out to my closest friend out here in Dallas, Brooke, for using her interior design and decorating skills to help make my place completely come together! And also for hanging things because I'm probably the least handy person you will ever meet, haha. So without further adieu, here's a look at my new living room space and some thoughts on why I went with this decor!
As I said at the beginning of this post, I came to Texas with quite a few items already in tow from my last place. I wasn't looking to spend a fortune re-decorating, however I knew that it was time for me to invest in a high quality couch. The past few couches have been torture on my back, and I couldn't suffer any longer. So, I went on an extensive search (and I do mean EXTENSIVE, y'all) for a new couch that would both fit my style, last me many many years, and would also be supportive for my back. Of course that led me to some high prices, but this was the one thing that I was willing to drop some serious cash on. My best friend and I went to so many furniture stores and literally sat on every single couch imaginable. I ended up with this one from Pottery Barn and am absolutely in love with it. I made sure it would work for me by actually sitting on it in store for about 45 minutes or so just to see how it would effect my back in the long run. It passed the test and then I made the purchase!
After making that huge investment in my place, I knew I would have to seriously cut back in other areas of my place. So the majority of my decor was either something I already owned, something I found on discount (thank you Burlington for somehow having the perfect abstract art in store for only $40!) or found at places like Target, Kirklands, or Amazon where things aren't insanely priced. I've linked to everything I could find online at the end of the photos, but if you can't find something for the price you want, I highly recommend checking out your local discount stores like Marshalls, HomeGoods, and TJ Maxx. AKA the holy trinity of home decor and where I spend the majority of my time 😉.
This is my first place ever living by myself, which means I got to create a space that was 100% my own, no compromises. If you've followed me for a while, you know that I might just have a slight obsession with pink and gold, so I knew those were going to be the main colors. With my couch being taupe/off white, I had a lot of open space to work with there too. I stuck with my girly and glam style throughout with touches of faux fur, flowers, and of course, gold accents. But I also didn't want my living room to lack personality, so I made to include a few unique items that show my interests and make me smile. My favorite of these things is the print of the black cat who looks incredibly like Henry, the Practical Magic book, and the zebra candle!
I found a good amount of my little personal decor items shopping around local stores, so don't forget to check out your town's gems! I actually grabbed the print of 'Henry' back in Seattle at Pike Place Market. Although I love trendy pieces, it's these little things that really make my space feel like home.

ReplyDeleteGreat job decorating the new living room! That new couch looks great. It is definitely expensive to furnish a living room but you did a great job on a budget! I'm moving across town to a new place in September and hoping to switch up my decor a little!
