Beauty Empties Vol. 1

by The Classic Brunette, 11:05:00 PM

As a blogger I try SO many products. Although I'm not complaining in the least, it does get tough to stick to a routine when I want to try everything. At all times I'm practically overflowing with beauty/skincare products. I try to test as many products as I can so I can review them, but that means in the long run I don't get to finish a good number of things. However, I decided to start this 'empties' series on the blog for the rare occasion when I do finish beauty products! If I finish something it normally means I have strong opinions about it, however it can also mean it's just what I had on hand. I hate to waste, so whenever possible I do try to finish products. (Fun fact, a lot of shelters/donation places don't take opened items, so it makes it hard to donate products that don't work for me!) So that leaves me with a few products that I've used up and want to share with you all!

Amika Velveteen Dream Smoothing Shampoo

Recently my hair has been absolutely finicky. In the past my hair took DAYS to get slightly greasy, but now it seems the day after washing it's already a greasy mess. I'm just saying I'm thankful for dry shampoo now more than ever. This shampoo started off strong, but in the end I think it was too silky/smooth for my hair. It's a very thin and runny formula which I think contributed to the grease buildup in my thin hair. If you have thicker hair with more texture (mine has no texture/grit at all!) this would probably be great for you! On the plus side, it did smell great!

Amika Velveteen Dream Smoothing Conditioner

Unlike my shampoos, I actually don't mind a silky conditioner! With my hair being thin, it tangles easily and needs something smooth to loosen it up a bit. Used with a different shampoo than its partner, it did a good job at smoothing, de-frizzing, and made it easy to detangle after washing.

Spa Thyme Hazelnut Toffee Latte Scrub

I am obsessed with body scrubs and exfoliants. I've actually had this one from Spa Thyme for a while and made a review upon my first few uses in this post, however I finally just finished the tub! As I said I have to make it through a lot of products, and this one was just sitting in a drawer until I found it again a few months ago. Let me just say that I LOVE this stuff and am so glad I found it again. It has the best smell (think Starbucks during Christmas time) and feels great on my skin. There are essential oils and sugar in it to both soften and exfoliate your skin at the same time. I typically use it on my arms and legs, however you can use it for your whole body! My favorite part of this is
that the scent and oils are long lasting, so your skin smells and feels amazing for hours after.

Love Beauty & Planet Hope And Repair Shampoo

This shampoo was a thicker formula than the Amika one, and definitely added a little more grit to my hair. The smell wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't bad by any means, just not something I normally go for. It gave me an extra day without grease, but the grease did come back so unfortunately it's still not going to be something I go back to. I think for me it's the coconut oil that added excess grease, I know some people swear by it, but I've never been a fan of it.

Love Beauty & Planet Hope And Repair Conditioner

Once again I think the coconut oil didn't go well with my hair. When I used this conditioner my hair looked and felt greasy from the moment my hair was dry. Again, I'm sure someone with thicker/more textured hair would benefit from this product more than I did!

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream

This is actually the second tub of this face cream I've finished off because it's AMAZING. I have dry, sometimes combination skin and this moisturizer is the absolute best. I use it whenever my skin is starting to feel tight, and also after every shower (when my skin feels the driest). It smells like cucumber which makes it feel a little more relaxing when you put it on. The moisture is great and lasts the whole day/night so no need to reapply it multiple times a day, although I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. You also only need the tiniest amount so it lasts forever! I use this every day and the 1.6 oz jar lasted a little over a year.

That's it for my empties! Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts on them, and what products are you loving that you recommend?

Talking about a little something different today on the blog....laundry, and how Tide purclean has helped me gain a better way to get it done! It's a chore I've actually grown to love over the past few years, mostly because it always leads to some organization (which I love!). Since moving to Seattle my laundry experience has only been elevated, namely in a way that involves less harsh chemicals and more plant-based products. As you can imagine, Seattle is a huge environmentally based city, and people here are always looking for ways to improve on their daily lives. I had heard of plant-based detergents, but didn't really give them a second thought until moving here. I wasn't sure how well they worked, what the benefits were, and most importantly how they would compare to my old detergent. Luckily, I found the perfect one that is everything my old detergent was and more: Tide purclean.

Pink Striped Sweater

It's finally fall! I'm so excited that the leaves are starting to change and the weather has already cooled down a significant amount here in Seattle. I've been trading dresses and shorts for long sleeves, sweaters, and denim and I couldn't be happier. Although I do love a good sundress, there's nothing I love more than a comfy sweater. It just makes me feel relaxed and ready to snuggle up with a good book and a cup of apple cider. Even though it's barely fall, my apartment is already well decorated for Halloween (Homegoods is where it's at everybody! I've already bought three decorations and a real pumpkin...) and I'll slowly be adding more until the holiday is here. Side note, I have NO IDEA what I want to be this year. Last year I was Winnie the Pooh, but can't think of anything for this year and am open to suggestion. Now, going back to my favorite article of clothing for fall...sweaters!

Travel Guide: Atlanta, Georgia

by The Classic Brunette, 12:03:00 AM

Hey everyone! I took a little hiatus last week while I was in Atlanta, but I'm so glad to be back sharing my trip with you all today. I was there for four days, and although I did do a number of fun things, I also spent a lot of time just inside my own hotel. I say that because I was actually there for a conference being held at the hotel. I'll be sharing a little guide of all the things I got up to while in Atlanta and my thoughts on the city and all the things to do, eat, and see there!

I recently shared a little glimpse of Henry in last Monday's post, and you all were so excited to see him! I wanted to share a little more about him because he's such a huge part of my life, and I know a lot of you all have kitties of your own! I adopted Henry last June when he was 5 weeks old and now he's SO BIG. Honestly, I think he's a mix of one of the bigger breeds of cats and will end up being 15+ pounds! But he's such a friendly giant, and makes me incredibly happy. I love cuddling up with him in the mornings, watching him play with his little catnip mice, and hearing his little meowing chirps whenever he wants food, haha. In all seriousness though Henry is such a little bundle of light and keeps me entertained and feeling loved all the time. He gives me so much, so I definitely spoil him back to make sure he's living his best life! Here are a few tips that make me a crazy cat lady and Henry the happiest little cat.

Last Minute Sephora Sale Purchases

by The Classic Brunette, 12:49:00 AM
Happy Labor Day everyone! I hope you were lucky enough to get a long weekend, but if you weren't I hope you got to at least enjoy some time with family and friends! I decided to take a little time off since posting my hugely personal post last Monday, but I did want to give a big THANK YOU to all of you who read it, commented, and reached out to me. It was a slightly terrifying post to write and share, but I already know that it's making the impact I wanted it to which is a great feeling! So thank you again to everyone! Now onto today's post. I recognize that the labor day sales have been up and running for a few days now, but there's really only one I'm interested in this year, and that's the Sephora sale! Today is the last day to shop, but I wanted to share my last minute picks from the sale. These are items I've either tried out myself, am repurchasing, or are on my personal wishlist. All VIBRouge members get 20% off (code:YESROUGE), VIB get 15% (code:YESVIB) and everyone else gets 10% off with code YESINSIDER.

If I had to pick a few out from this list that I highly recommend it would be these three: Fresh's Lotus Youth Preserve Moisturizer, Buxom's Big Tease Mascara, and Laura Mercier's Translucent Setting Powder. I use all three of these almost every single day and cannot say enough good things. The Fresh moisturizer is something that rehydrates my skin without making it feel oily or overly hydrated. I've tested out a few different moisturizers and oils and this is the one that I've repurchased again and again (even though it's slightly on the expensive side.)

The Buxom mascara is also a product that I repurchased during the sale since it's currently my favorite mascara! I tried this when I received it in a PR box and fell absolutely in love with it. It gives incredible volume, doesn't clump and makes me almost look like I'm wearing falsies.

The translucent setting powder is also a little bit pricey, but if you've been searching for the perfect "flawless" finishing product, this stuff can't be beat. I've used a few different setting sprays (including the Urban Decay All Nighter Spray above which I love for different reasons) but this powder gives almost an airbrushed finish to your face. It keeps my makeup in place, and gives me that perfect look I crave when I do a full face of makeup. You can't go wrong with it!

Like I said above, all these products are either on my to-buy list, I've tried, or have already repurchased. Most being in the last two categories! Have you purchased from the Sephora sale this year? What are you going to buy during this last day of the sale?
