I've been wanting to try out the overall trend since they first started coming back just over a year ago. I tried some on, felt and looked like I was 12 years old, and decided that maybe I wasn't meant to rock a pair. Every few months I would see some overalls hanging up in a store, try them on, and would either feel childish like before or that they just didn't look all that great on me. But the other day I was browsing in TJ Maxx and saw a huge rack of overalls. I decided to give it a go and ended up purchasing this beauty! I was always a little hesitant of purchasing overalls even though I love how they look on others, and the price and fit was finally right for me to pull the plug.
This post was actually going to be on three different ways to wear overalls (this was going to be the 'fun' option), however light ended up not working in my favor. I think the thing that scared me the most with making this trendy purchase was not having enough outfits to wear with them, however once I bought them and tested out different tops I found that absolutely isn't the case. You can make almost every blouse or t-shirt work with overalls as long as you style it right!
I'm wearing a slightly looser top tucked in, and I think that's the key to successfully rocking a pair of overalls. Your top of choice should either be a tighter fitting top or something that can be tucked to give the illusion that it's fitted. I'm a fan of stripes, polka dots, or even a plaid top underneath, but really any pattern or top with some added texture like a knit sweater.
Since overalls are one of the most 'casual' items in today's trends I think it's important to strike a balance by adding some more styled, and feminine items if that's more your style. Since I like my outfits to be more on the feminine side, I decided to pair my overalls with a cute pair of pink platform slides as well as some fun statement earrings. A few other options you can wear are bejeweled sandals, detailed slides, fun sneakers, heels (for dressier occasions) and for accessories you can add a scarf, a floppy hat, and lots of colorful jewelry! One of my favorite parts about wearing overalls is that they're practically a blank canvas for you to throw your personality into.
What do you think? Are you a fan of the overall trend?
I love to put overalls on my 2-year-old son, but never thought I could pull them off myself. You're definitely making me give them a second thought. Very pretty!

You are looking pretty. Overalls are a summer staple we adore, thanks the effortlessly charming touch they bring to an outfit in womens trendy clothing. But deciding what to wear them with can be a bit of a head-scratcher.
