Am I the only one who gets that itch to change up their bedroom decor every few months or so? It's never because I hate what I have been living with, but I just get bored with staring at the same exact space for months on end. This was especially true for when I lived in the dorms at school, as I would typically bring in the same stuff that I chose freshman year on a whim but didn't actually love. Since living in a house things have been better. I have more space to decorate, had a fresh start to really pick out things I love (like my duvet cover!), and felt like I had a place that was actually mine. But that want to change things up a bit was still there, however I don't want to spend a fortune decorating and redecorating every few months, that would just be ridiculous. I've found a few ways to get around dropping a ton of cash and wanted to share them with you in case you are in the same boat!

Get Crafty

Maybe it's the sorority girl in me, but crafting is my favorite way to give a room a facelift. I just recently painted the wooden monogram above and think it adds so much to what was just a boring empty space. Despite what you may think, crafts can be extremely cheap! Buy a few paint colors from Michaels or your other local craft store, a canvas from the dollar store (pro tip: Even canvases that already have something on them can be easily painted over!), some cheap paintbrushes, and a Pinterest tutorial and you're all set! Or purchase something a little fancier like the monogram and give it your own personal touch like I did! Adding some crafts can really make a space feel like home, and it also gives you the opportunity to get creative every now and then.

Purchase Wisely

Do you actually really need or want something for your room that isn't a "quick fix?" Then you might actually need to spend some money. For me that piece was a large mirror. I've wanted one for a while, and felt that my room wasn't complete without it, but I didn't want to spend too much on it. For months I've been scouring Facebook's marketplace and my university's Free & For Sale page with nothing showing up, but someone posted the mirror above and I was quick to act on it! It's definitely worth it to give yourself a deadline of when you want to purchase your bigger ticket item, and search on all the possible listing platforms for something that fits your needs. Facebook marketplace is something that not everyone utilizes, but I've found some great gems on there for cheap! And when in doubt, IKEA never fails for cheap, great furniture!

Add Dimension

Sometimes I get sick of the actual space I'm living in and wish that I could change the layout. But we all know that isn't possible, especially if you're renting like I am. I love to add more dimension to my room by adding mirrors. As I just said I recently purchased a rather large one, but I also have another medium size one on the opposite side of the room. It makes my bedroom look larger and brighter, what more could you want?

Create A Color Scheme

This is something I like to do when I first start decorating so everything comes together well once it's all said and done. As you can probably tell above, one of the main colors in my room is gold. This makes updating my space extremely easy, as all I need to do is find a few little gold pieces to trade in and out every few months. My favorite places to buy affordable color scheme items are Marshalls, Home Goods, and TJ Maxx, especially the clearance section.

  7. Your room is totally cute. I love decorating but it can get expensive really fast if you aren't careful. It's so much fun when you can turn a craft into a luxe looking piece of decor.

  12. Oh,I agree! I actually just blogged about decluttering, rearranging, and reorganizing our living room space where a pool table used to be! I make quilts, pillows, and other home decor, so my decorating and updating is often in the form of something made from fabric!
