Living in California has so many up sides, however one of the downfalls is that we don't get all the seasons in most cities. At least that's a downside to me! I know others that might say otherwise, ha! For this reason it can be difficult to ever fully transition from your summer wardrobe into your fall wardrobe, since the cold weather normally hits us in mid-to-late October (at least in SoCal). Fall is my favorite season, but there's only so many opportunities I get to actually wear fall clothes! Most of my fall outfits end up looking like the one above, a mix of summer items with an autumn twist. As a self-proclaimed transitional outfit pro, I'm here to give you my best tips for bringing your summer wardrobe into the fall season. Whether you just can't get enough of those off the shoulder tops or you're like me and don't live in a place where the leaves change on time, these tips will hopefully help you out.

Change Your Makeup

Bring out all the fall makeup shades! Berry or nude lips can instantly turn any outfit into the perfect fall look. Try out some darker colors on both your lips and eyes to intensify the overall feel of your look. I love wearing berry lipsticks like the one pictured above as well as adding darker neutral shadows to my everyday beauty routine. Your face is what people look at when interacting with you, so if your makeup reflects the season you are on the right track.

Add A Fall Shoe

Boots and booties rarely show their face in the warmer months, so pairing your swing dress with a cute pair of ankle booties will definitely scream fall. If you happen to live in an area that is on the colder side, I would definitely break out the over the knee or tall boots! I've always felt that shoes are the easiest way to style an outfit or make a statement, so why shouldn't this work the same way when transitioning wardrobes? Pick your favorite shoe that is stereotypically fall (boots, loafers, jewel-tone-flats, etc) and add it to your summer looks to get a great low-key transitional outfit.

Make Color Changes

Summer is all about bright, fun colors that make a statement. Fall is essentially the opposite. Can you wear fun colors during the fall, absolutely, but bright colors + a non-traditional fall item does not equal a fall outfit. Have a cute tank or skirt that happens to be in musturd, burnt orange, olive green, etc? Wear it! Fall colors are darker, moodier, and all center around the jewel tones (and also black, but that's always "in" in my opinion). Pair your fall colored pieces with other summer attire and you might just get away with dressing for the season.

Learn To Layer

Layering is so fun! It's like adding a second wave of fashion to your original outfit. (Does that sentence even make sense to anyone else but me? LMK) A great summer dress can transition perfectly into fall when paired with a military or pleather jacket! Layer jackets, cardigans, scarves over your traditional summer clothes and you have a simple fix for making your wardrobe seasonally appropriate.

What do you think of my tips? Do you have any transitional style tips of your own? I would love to hear them in the comments!

  3. Fall is my absolute favorite season but living in South Texas makes it almost impossible to actually dress in true fall fashion. I love your recommendations and I can't wait to use them!
