How To Prevent And Fight Breakouts With ZAPZYT

This post has been sponsored by the PRIMP Network. All opinions are my own!

In past blog posts I've talked about how I've been lucky with my skin that I never get too many breakouts. Although I do think the luck of the genetic lottery does definitely help with my mostly clear skin, I also make decisions in my life to make sure it stays that way! I'm not going to lie, I definitely do get breakouts, particularly when I'm stressed, and these are the exact ways I help get rid of or prevent breakouts!

Eat Healthy
What you put in your body matters! If you're eating junk with tons of oils or fried foods it can disrupt your skin's hormones and clog your pores. If I get a nasty zit I always think back to what I had been eating the days beforehand and normally I can trace it back to something poor in my diet. A lot of the time I can clear up my face by adding some fruits and veggies into my meals!

Wash Your Face
This should be a no brainer, but I didn't do this for the longest time! I just didn't see the point since I was rarely getting zits, however what I didn't realize was that although I wasn't breaking out it didn't mean that my skin was healthy. I had sort of a dull tone to my face and my pores were clogged pretty often. Some people recommend washing your face twice a day (morning + night), but if you're like me and have relatively clear skin I believe you can get away with only doing it at night!

Drink Water
Water is the key to beautiful skin. In fact, water is the key to keeping your entire body healthy and running smoothly, so are you really surprised that it could clear up those blemishes too? I've started drinking mostly water and have noticed a tremendous improvement in the number of zits I get. Seriously, if you aren't drinking enough water anyhow it's good for a number of other health reasons.

Give Your Skin A Break
If you wear a full face of makeup everyday and are wondering why you're still getting breakouts, I think we know the answer. Your skin needs time to breath, and not just while you're sleeping. Take a few days and forego the foundation and other face makeup and your skin will thank you!

Try Not To Touch Your Face
This is probably the hardest of these tips to follow, at least for me! I always find myself resting my hands on my cheeks, rubbing my face, etc. Or even worse, I'll get a zit and automatically start touching it, even though I know that it will only make it worse. When you touch your face you transfer all the oils from your hands in to your pores. So if you've been eating something greasy or just haven't watched your hands in a while, all the dirt and grime and oil are going to transfer onto your face.

Use The Right Skincare Products
I've gone through a lot of acne products over the years. I have had success with a few, but my skin tends to get used to products fairly quickly and I have to switch things up every few months. I've recently fallen in love with the products from ZAPZYT, especially their Acne Treatment Gel that is great for spot treatment. This acne gel works so well! I had a zit that seemingly popped up overnight and with one use of the gel it was nearly gone within a few hours. It does dry out the skin (like most acne products) but for how well it works it is well worth it in my opinion. I also really enjoyed using the other products in the ZAPZYT line. The Pore Treatment Gel, Acne Wash, and Pore Clearing Scrub all contain salicylic acid that help to stop breakouts upon arrival. I've noticed that the acne wash and the acne gel have worked the best for my skin which is on the dryer side. You can find all of these ZAPZYT products at Walmart!

Camo Print Top

Camo Tshirt: c/o Groopdealz (similar) | White Jeans (on sale!) | Monogram Necklace | Tassle Necklace c/o Sugarfix (similar) | Black Cat Bracelet | Pineapple Ring (similar) | Watch | Black Heels c/o Groopdealz (similar only $30!) | Lip Stain (#40)

Hello! I'm currently writing this post from Tahoe as I'm here with my family once again. It's my first time leaving my cat since adopting him, and I've been so nervous leaving him! I know he's in good hands with my best friend, but that doesn't stop me from asking about how he's doing 24/7. But if that's the only worry I have right now, I would say I'm pretty lucky.

Now, today's outfit post is a little different than what I would normally wear. I firmly believed that the camo print trend was out of my comfort zone. I've been scrolling on Instagram for the past few weeks looking at other girls and how they've styled their looks and realized that I wanted to take the plunge and try it out for myself. I know you're probably thinking, Sami, it's just a tshirt, this isn't a major thing you're doing, so calm down. And you're right, but I'm always a little weary on taking steps out of my regular fashion personality. However, I justified this purchase because the price was right (only $8!) and it was a simple piece that I knew that I could get a lot of wear out of. I bought it on a site called Groopdealz that has new boutique discounts ever 24 hours and I swear they have some of the best deals on the Internet! I got both my top and shoes from there, and will probably buy some of my fall wardrobe there as well. It's weirdly exciting to check out the new deals each day!

After getting the camo tshirt in the mail I've been kind of wearing it a lot, it's just so dang comfy! I realized that I can make it align more with my personal style if I keep the rest of the look pretty feminine. So I typically wear it with brighter bottoms like white denim, a fun accessory, and either heels or booties. I can't wait to bring this look into the fall, especially with the nude beauty look that I tried out here as as well.

What do you think of the camo trend?

My Third Blogiversary + Reader Survey

Bloggers, am I the only person who is horrible at remembering their own blogiversary? I feel like it comes and goes by and it completely slips my mind each year. Granted, this is only my third year blogging, but still! I always remember it's in the beginning of August, but no matter how hard I try to remember I always forget. It's not like it's not important to me, I just always feel like my head is a million different places at once with my blog, and it just seems to fall on the back burner! Last year's blogiversary I prepped early with photos, but this year is just about celebrating the blog itself! I'm sharing a few of my favorite posts from over the years as well as some answers about me as I was tagged in a fun blogging chain by Carly from The Carly Collective! I will also have a reader survey at the bottom of the post, because you all are SO incredibly important to me and I want to make this blog a better space for YOU! (So pretty please take the less than 5 minute survey!) Also, this is going to be a bit lengthy, so stay with me here!

Let's start out with my favorite posts! These are a few of my faves for various reasons, and if I wanted to bore you to death I could probably share way more, but I will leave it to just 5!

1. My First Post: Although rather embarrassing to look at now, my first post is one of my favorites! I started out the blog with a different name, and you can probably tell that my current name does not match my looks back then. (Hint: Look at the color of my hair!) It's weird looking back on that post considering only about half of the things I said would be included on the blog have actually showed up on a regular basis! (For example it's been about two years since we've seen any nail art on The Classic Brunette!)

2. Tips And Advice For Freshman Year: This advice still rings true three years later! For those of you who are headed to college in the fall, I would highly recommend reading my thoughts on what you need to know before you go. My favorite piece of advice is #5! On a similar note, check out my guide on How To Be A Great Roommate!

3. Blogging Tips From Gossip Girl: I just love how fun this post is! Gossip Girl is one of my favorite shows, and somehow I made it relatable to the current blogging world. These tips are extremely helpful, so thank's Gossip Girl for teaching me the ins and outs of writing a good blog!

4. New Orleans Part 1 & Part 2: These two posts are so sentimental to me because of how much the city of New Orleans means to me. I didn't know it back then, but the city, its history, and the class I took while there was all going to have a huge impact on my college career. I ended up writing my thesis on Voodoo and I got the chance to visit NOLA again this past January for research.

5. Fall Outfit Post: This was the first outfit post where I actually felt like a fashion blogger! I had shared some ootd blog posts before, however I wasn't all that comfortable in front of the camera. I think the red lipstick gave me the confidence I needed to break out of my shell a bit. Either way, it's one of my favorite style posts to date!

Now for the 11 questions tag and for you to learn a little more about me! :)

1. Are you more of a dog or cat person?
Oh I am a cat person for sure. I've grown up with cats all my life and I would adopt all the cats in the world if I could. I actually just adopted a kitten! Although I really love dogs as well, I could never picture myself owning one for myself. My roommate/best friend has one and taking care of her is sometimes overwhelming.

2. If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Probably the fried rice from Benihanas. It's just SO good!

3. Summer or Winter?
Winter! Although I love that the summer brings a nice break in school, that won't be the case for me anymore. I'm not a fan of hot weather and will start getting too warm at around 75 degrees. I also think everything fun happens in the winter including Christmas, my birthday, and New Years, so I'm always looking forward to it!

4. What is your guilty pleasure TV show?
I have far too many! But I think I'm going to have to go with The Bachelor/The Bachelorette. I know how cheesy and completely awful the shows are and yet I can't turn away! (Spoiler!) Anyone else still upset over Peter not winning?

5. When and why did you start blogging?
I started blogging three years ago! I remember not having too great of a year during my first year of college, and wanted to have an outlet to discuss college tips, style, and other things that interested me. I think I mostly started it as a form of creative outlet where I could give advice to those who wanted it or even just to give advice to myself.

6. Besides blogging, what are some of your other favorite things to do?
For some reason I find answering questions about my hobbies so hard for me! The second anyone asks I suddenly have no idea what I like to do. I love watching movies, reading, going to trivia nights (seriously, anyone else a little obsessed with trivia?) and I like to do crafts when I have the time.

7. What is your dream job?
Being a full time blogger would definitely be my dream job! I would love to have this turn into a career. However if I'm talking about a more real-world career, I would love to run social media for a fashion or beauty company or work as a writer for a magazine (online like Bustle or print like Seventeen). If I ever decide to take a complete change from these fields I think I would also enjoy being a criminal profiler, I oddly feel like I would be good at it! I took a Forensic Psych class in college and it was probably one of the most interesting courses I've ever taken.

8. What is your Starbucks order?
I'll normally order a cool lime refresher with lemonade instead of water in the warmer days. Either that or an iced white mocha. I'll change the white mocha to hot during the colder months. For food I'll either order a ham and cheese croissant (SO GOOD!) or a classic coffee cake!

9. How do you come up with ideas for blog posts?
Most of the time it's just from my real life experiences! If I'm thinking about something fashion/beauty/lifestyle related and have a question about it I'm sure others are too. I'll write posts on things that are relevant (like my recent Instagram algorithm post) and things that I would want to read on someone else's blog.

10. What is the last book you read?
Darkly Dreaming Dexter. It's the first book in the Dexter series and it was exactly like the first season of the TV show. Can't wait to read the rest of the books!

11. What beauty product can you not leave the house without?
Mascara! I just feel naked without it!

Now the way this little chain thing goes is that I tag other bloggers to answer my 11 questions, however I'm opening it up to everyone to answer! Here are my questions for all of you, which you can answer in the comments :)

1. What does your perfect day look like?
2. Who is your celebrity crush?
3. What was the first concert you ever went to?
4. Do you have a blog? What do you write about?
5. If you could travel to any destination for free where would you go?
6. What is your favorite movie?
7. If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why?
8. What is your favorite cult beauty product?
9. What is your proudest accomplishment?
10. What's the weirdest dream you ever had?
11. What's your favorite memory from this year so far?

If you've read through this entire post, THANK YOU! You all mean so much to me and I'm so happy that you make it possible for my blog to continue on growing. I would appreciate it if you took the reader survey linked above so that I can continue to make my posts more beneficial to you!

Sephora Makeup Haul

Hello lovelies! For the first time in a while I made some purchases from Sephora, and I wanted to share them with you. I've never done a "haul" type post, but I feel like this would be considered one. I'll also be including reviews and swatches (for the palettes) as well as my overall thoughts on the products.

There's a reason this lipgloss is considered a best seller! I'm particular about my lip glosses, because I hate the way some feel on my lips. This one however is perfectly comfortable and doesn't have that "sticky" feeling that you can occasionally get. The shade I purchased is described as a champagne-gold shimmer, but I would also add that there is somewhat of a nude base to it as well. Most times I prefer the glossy look over the matte, so when comparing to other nude lip products I own, this one gives me that desired finish. I've been experimenting with using this on top of my other nude lipsticks and stains and it continues to look gorgeous with every one I try! P.S. If you're looking for a great nude lip stain (that my roommates have dubbed the 'sisterhood of the traveling pants' of lip stains because of it's universally flattering color) try out this one from the Sephora collection!

Shades From Top To Bottom: Treasure, Escape, Tiki, Heat Wave, Malibu, Rays, Compass, Jewel

First of all how cute is the mermaid pattern on this palette?! I love how all the palettes in the Rainforest of the Sea collection have gorgeous patterns like this. I haven't tried either of the first two eyeshadow palettes in this collection, however I had heard great things about them. When I was in Sephora searching through the items I was drawn to this one because of the glittery shades. In my daily makeup routine I regularly include shimmery eyeshadow, so I believed this would be an excellent addition to my collection. One thing I was nervous about was that with my (extremely) pale skin, some of these shades wouldn't show up. Luckily, they all were nicely pigmented and even the lightest of them showed up! My only complaint is that there's a bit of fallout when applying, however I've found that if I apply the shadow with my finger that lessens it significantly. I also tested these out for longer wear, and they stay on all day which is also a plus. The colors are all gorgeous and easy to blend, something that I truly love about Tarte eyeshadows! I will definitely be using this in my day to day looks for the coming months.

Shades From Top To Bottom: Tempera, Golden Ochre, Vermeer, Buon Fresco, Antique Bronze, Love Letter, Cyprus Umber, Raw Sienna, Burnt Orange, Primavera, Red Ochre, Venetian Red, Warm Taupe, Realgar

I have wanted the Modern Renaissance palette since the minute I laid eyes on it! The colors are absolutely dreamy and the pink and red tones are so on trend right now. Again I was worried that the shadows wouldn't look good with my skin tone, but I'm literally OBSESSED with how great they look. I'm always a little scared to go out of my comfort zone with eyeshadow (Aka anything that isn't a neutral), however I am love love loving these reds and pinks. My roommates and I went out for a girls night and I decided to experiment with this palette and I was extremely impressed with the pigmentation and longevity of the colors. I actually ended up sleeping with my makeup on and I woke up and nothing had smudged or went out of place. If you're looking to splurge on an eyeshadow palette that has some neutrals and some fun colors, I highly recommend this palette!

What makeup have you purchased lately?

Fall Fashion Wishlist Under $80

There's something about the start of August that has me start thinking about fall, probably the fact that it means school is right around the corner. Although I'm officially out of school, I'm not sure if I'll ever get out of that mindset! It's also been uncharacteristically humid here in California and I catch myself constantly dreaming about the crisp days of fall. I was sitting in Starbucks while writing this post with the AC blasting and it was super cloudy outside, so it really got me in the mood for autumn. However it was a harsh reminder stepping outside into the 90 degree heat. Here's hoping for some cooler weather in the upcoming weeks! In the meantime these are some things that are on my mind for my fall closet.

One | Nude Pearl Slides $25: I found these shoes the other day while shopping in Target and I kid you not I booked it over to the rack and grabbed my size. These look like exact copies of the Steve Madden version but are only about a third of the price. The nude version is sold out online except for size 11, and they weren't in my store either, so I picked up the black pair instead. Still super cute, however I will be stalking the website until the nude version comes back into stock!

Two | Pink Shirt Dress $25: If you can't tell, I'm a huge fan of this millennial/blush pink trend. I think the hype will carry over into the fall, however I think it has to be styled correctly. I love this shirt dress because it's essentially a clean slate that you can style multiple ways. Add a plaid scarf, tan booties, and a neutral makeup look and you have one of my favorite looks for fall. The best thing about this dress is that I can see it working for a number of seasons and continuing to be a staple in my wardrobe.

Three | Initial Pendant Necklace $45: Personalized necklaces are just so, for lack of a better word, personal! If you've seen any of my recent outfit posts then you know how much I adore my monogram necklace, but sometimes I'd like something a little daintier for everyday wear. I love that this one comes in silver, gold, and rose gold.

Four | Duster Cardigan $52: I love the look of the duster cardigans, but I've never actually owned one. This one is a great neutral while still being slightly unique in color. This would be perfect for layering, especially as it starts to get closer to the winter months. Yes, I am planning that far ahead.

Five | Taupe Lace Up Booties $34: I have so many booties in my closet that I am dying to break out for autumn. These are too cute to pass up, and due to the lighter color and lace up detail they would be great as a transition item.

Six | Camel Mules $79.90: Loafers and mules are HUGE for Fall. I'm loving these neutral pointed toe ones from Kristen Cavallari's line. These would work perfectly for practically any outfit, including work wear! Sorority girls this means you can wear these to your business meetings. (Did anyone else have a difficult time finding shoes that fit their chapter's dress code that weren't heels or ballet flats?) There are so many cute mule options out there right now, but this option is just perfect for all occasions.

Seven | Rolled Sleeve Military Jacket $79: Am I the only one who is of the opinion that you can never have enough military jackets? I bought one last fall, however I feel this style is totally different. I love the draped opening of this piece and the color is much lighter than the other cargo jackets that are out there. I think it's more feminine, especially with the little bow details underneath the front pockets. Excuse me while I add this to my shopping cart. The only downside is that it's the second most expensive thing on my wishlist...

Eight | Off Shoulder Sweater Dress $38: This dress comes in a variety of colors and I just love how comfy it looks. Comfort and style are always something that go hand in hand in my book, and this knit dress is exactly that. I believe this would be another great transition piece to wear with booties, but it could also work for cooler temps by pairing it with taller boots and a scarf.

Nine | Floppy Wool Hat $39: Is it really fall if you aren't wearing a floppy hat? All jokes aside, I think a nice hat like this is a great accessory to add to your wardrobe. I love the tiny bow detail on this one and think the color can be paired with SO many other fall colors. It's another great neutral that I just had to include in my wishlist!

Ten | Brown Saddle Bag $32: Can you tell I'm a fan of neutrals yet? I love how this bag looks like a designer dupe, and yet it is equally simple. It's great when you can just pick up a bag and sling it on with any outfit, and this is definitely something you can do with this one. Normally I'm not a huge fan of chain handles, however for this price and versatility of this bag I can make an exception.

Eleven | Hooded Gray Sweatshirt $18: Cute loungewear is ALWAYS on my wishlist. Especially now that I have a male roommate, walking around the house in my old pajamas all the time (aka big t-shirts) is no longer acceptable. This hoodie looks incredibly comfortable and seems perfect for those fall days where you want to do nothing but sit on the couch and watch movies or read a good book.

Twelve | Pink Flare Sleeved Sweater Top $38: Okay, so this color isn't what you typically think about for fall, however I don't think bright shades have to be limited to the spring and summer! I imagine wearing this in an otherwise all black outfit and letting the top be the star. I think the sleeves are so fun, and will add some flare (hah! Get it? Okay enough with the puns...) to an outfit.

What's the most exciting thing about fall for you?
