Happy Friday everyone! So sorry this post is coming at you a day late, I was having a few computer issues Wednesday night/Thursday where for some reason nothing would post to the blog! But we're back, even if it's a day late. On Instagram the other day many of you expressed your want for more beauty posts on the blog, so here's to the start of that!
I absolutely love makeup, even though I may not show it as much on the blog here as I would like to. I'm nowhere near the pro beauty bloggers that know their way around every product imaginable, but I do really enjoy testing out new looks, and doing my makeup in the morning is actually one of my favorite parts of the day. Although I feel like I'm constantly trying out new products, it's not too often though that I actually add something new to my ongoing routine. Most of the products above I've been using since high school and are items that I'm truly obsessed with. There are a few outliers here that I've only recently started using, but are so good that they officially have a spot in my day to day makeup rotation.
As I said before, I love experimenting with makeup, but that's not exactly ideal for me when I'm waking up for my early morning classes. As a college student I don't always have a lot of time while doing my makeup, so a great simple routine is always best. My daily makeup style is what I like to call "natural glam." Basically what this means is a simple natural look and adding some sparkle to it (Because who doesn't love a little sparkle?) I always want to go for a fresh face, a nice highlight, some shimmer on the eyes, and a neutral lip.
I've talked a lot about skincare in the past, so I didn't add any of those items to this post, however skincare is definitely an important part of the routine as well. I always cleanse my skin with these wipes or this face wash. They're both the same formula, but I use one or the other depending on how much time I have. And because I typically have dry skin, I use this Aveeno lotion to just replenish the moisture. I lotion once in the morning and once before bed so I can wake up with fresh skin. I also am constantly using my sugar lip balm, especially these past few months. We all know how addicted I am to a good lip balm! I think having good skin and lip care is definitely the key to having a strong base for your makeup!
I would say that 5/7 days I don't wear foundation since I don't often need it. If I do choose to wear foundation, it's never anything that's too heavy. I really like to use BB Cream instead, because it gives me some color and the perfect amount of coverage. This one is really light, has SPF 21 (So great for my pale skin!) and covers any blemishes that need a quick fix. I just use a regular foundation brush to apply it, but if I'm ever using anything thicker I'll be trying out my new beauty blender! I don't do bronzer or blush, first because I have so much of a natural blush on my cheeks that I don't truly need it, and second because I'm actually a little scared that I'll mess up if I use bronzer! Haha. However I do really enjoy using highlighter, since it's a nice way to accentuate certain features! I have a contour kit that I got from Marshalls that I use, but I also use this gold-toned highlighter for my cheeks and cupid's bow.
I don't do too much on my eyes most days, mostly just eyeshadow and mascara. If I'm feeling fancy I'll do some winged eyeliner. I either reach for my Naked Palette or my Carli Bybel Palette, both are great for my "neutral glam" makeup style. Here's my basic look for every day: Before putting any shadow on I use my eyeshadow primer to make sure everything stays throughout my classes. For my Naked Palette I start by swiping the shade 'virgin' (pale tan with slight shimmer) all over the lid and underneath the brows as a base. Next I take the shade 'naked' and put that all over the lid. Then I either use the shade 'sidecar' all over the lid if I want an intense shimmer, or if I want something a little more natural I go for the shade 'buck' or 'smog' and brush it over my crease. Then I blend it together. If I want to do a little something extra, I'll take an eyeliner brush and use the shade 'darkhorse' to draw eyeliner on. If I'm using the Carli Palette I'll pick out similar shades, however the shadows I use here all have a little sparkle to them.
I also really love big lashes, so it's normal for me to layer on a few mascaras to get the look I want. My favorites are this one for length and this one for volume, a few swipes of each and it's basically like I'm wearing fake lashes! My final touch on my eyes is to make my brows look neat and full. I highly recommend benefit's brow line, I've been obsessed with it ever since it came out! First I go in with the brow pencil and use the brush end to guide the hairs in the right way. Then I draw in short quick strokes to fill in my brows, being sure to follow the natural shape of my brows. After they're all filled in I go in with the gel and the highlighter to finish them off.
Finishing off the whole look, I swipe some neutral-pink lip color on my lips (my favorites are this gloss and this satin lip pencil) or just head out with just some lip balm!
I would love to know what your daily routines are like and which items you reach for the most!
